Coin Purse in Beaded Smocked Double Rib

Materials:
100 yds handspun Chiengora/wool blend yarn, 16 wpi or sport weight yarn of choice
(Purse in photo made with a blend of purple dyed German Shepherd Dog fur and blue dyed wool)
106 glass beads size 6/0
fabric for lining
8 or 9 inch nylon zipper
sewing needle and thread
tapestry needle
steel crochet hook size 9
US size 2 knitting needles

Finished size 6 ½ x 4 inches
Gauge 10 st/inch over stitch pattern

B= insert RH needle between 6th and 7th stitch on LH needle, wrap RH needle with working yarn knitwise and pull loop forward to front of work; place a bead on crochet hook and pick up new loop formed with loaded (with bead) crochet hook. Slide bead off of crochet hook and onto knit loop, slip loaded knit stitch onto LH needle. Knit loaded knit stitch and next stitch on LH needle together.

Cast on 68 stitches

Cast off

Fold knitted rectangle in half and sew sides together with mattress stitch. Cut two pieces of fabric for lining 1 inch wider and 1 inch longer than finished knit purse dimensions to allow for ½ inch seam allowances for all seams. Sew zipper to fabric pieces. Fold and sew remaining 3 sides together.

Finished fabric liner:

Slide fabric liner into knit coin purse. Open zipper and pin fabric lining and knit coin purse edges together. Because of the knit rib stitch, the coin purse edges will flair. Pinch ribbed sections closed to remove the flare and pin in place to the zipper edge of fabric lining so that the top and bottom dimensions of the coin purse are the same. With hidden stitch, hand sew edges of coin purse to edge of fabric lining at least 1/8 th inch away from zipper teeth. Tuck zipper end in between coin purse and lining when stitching around the end. Continue sewing until entire lining is stitched firmly in place.
