A Scarf from Boone

A friendly and outgoing Flatcoat Retriever, Boone, shared some of his fur for this silk and chiengora scarf. I spun the 2 ply mixed yarn for the scarf on my Louet s10 wheel. The yarn was dyed in my crock pot with Easter egg dye in a vinegar bath. I was going for a deeper blue, but love the resulting blue-green that came out of the pot. The scarf is knit in a simple knit and purl pattern giving it a nice a diagonal texture. The fringe is made from black pearl cotton with black glass beads tied on the ends of the tassels for added weight and sparkle.

The pattern is simple and can be adapted for most yarns. The design is similar on both sides of the scarf; there is no right or wrong side of the scarf.

Pattern is worked in a multiple of 4 sts
Cast on 28 sts (or desired multiple of 4)
row 1: [K2, P2] repeat to end of row
row 2: [K2, P2] repeat to end of row
row 3: [K1, P2, K1] repeat to end of row
row 4: [P1, K2, P1] repeat to end of row
row 5: [P2, K2] repeat to end of row
row 6: [P2, K2] repeat to end of row
row 7: [P1, K2, P1] repeat to end of row
row 8: [K1, P2, K1] repeat to end of row

Repeat rows 1 through 8 to desired scarf length
Add fringe if desired.

charted pattern for scarf:

x = purl on right side, knit on wrong side
empty box = knit on right side, purl on wrong side.

Boone's scarf used 200 yds, was knit on size 3 needles at a gauge of 5 1/2 stitches per inch and 8 rows per inch. The scarf measures 5 inches wide and 45 inches long (without the fringe).

I am currently working on a scarf with this pattern on size 10 1/5 needles with Artful Yarns Shakespeare yarn. It is similar to a pencil roving and comes in many beautiful colors. I will post pictures when it is complete.
